Our History

The Tomball Art League traces its roots back to the Lone Star Art Guild, which began in Brenham on April 17, 1961, with 20 leagues. Tomball Art League officially began in 1983. In those early days, we met at Samuel’s Matthews Park here in Tomball. At that time, Virginia Carlton was our president.

After that, we met for a while at the old Graceview Baptist Church, which is no longer there and is now a retail space. From 2006 to 2017, we met upstairs at Amegy Bank here in Tomball. Then, beginning in 2018 and continuing to the present, we’ve been fortunate to meet here in the Tomball Lone Star Library. We have held events and shows in the Tomball Event Center, Beckendorff and currently Tomball Lone Star Library. It’s been a wonderful home for us.

We purchased our first trailer in 2008 from the Northwest Art League to store the panels for the shows which were purchased over the next couple of years.

Like many organizations, COVID really knocked the wind out of our sails, for a while. Membership and activity dipped, but I’m happy to say that things have levelled out and now we’re growing again. . In 2024, we upgraded the trailer to accommodate our growing membership and props needed for larger shows.

We currently have 94 members, but we always have room for more!
