Legacy Scholarships support graduating high school seniors entering a college, university, art school, or other eligible visual-arts educational program. The legacy scholarship program includes an initial scholarship and an opportunity for additional support after successful academic performance.
The initial scholarship is awarded through a competitive application process based on artistic ability and potential, commitment to visual-arts education, educational goals, portfolio quality, school and community involvement, financial circumstances or barriers, and a recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or community leader.
Applicants provide a personal statement, examples of original artwork, information about the proposed educational program, and supporting materials specified in the application. TAL publishes the selection criteria and application requirements before the deadline.
The suggested initial scholarship is $1,000–$2,500, awarded before the first approved academic term. Funding may support verified tuition, fees, books, required art supplies, and equipment. Whenever possible, payment is made directly to the educational institution.
An initial Legacy Scholarship recipient may qualify for an additional scholarship after successfully completing the first approved semester or academic term. This is continued support within Level Two. Receipt of an initial scholarship does not automatically guarantee an additional award.
To qualify, the recipient must:
For an approved nontraditional program without letter grades, TAL may accept an instructor’s written confirmation of satisfactory progress.
The suggested performance-based award is $500–$1,500. Subject to verification and the continued availability of scholarship funds, each initial recipient who meets all published performance requirements will receive the stated performance scholarship. Any further renewal opportunities and requirements will be determined and announced annually.
TAL establishes annual funding, award amounts, deadlines, eligible programs, and payment procedures. Awards are subject to available funds and verification of eligibility and expenses. TAL maintains records of youth award drawings, scholarship selections, approvals, and payments. Any unused or unclaimed award funds remain with TAL for program purposes.
This program is designed to grow as community support grows. We allow for the inclusion of named scholarships to be awarded using the same criteria and limitations.
